Language learning abroad
Studying on holiday? You bet!
You can hear the Mediterranean lapping against the shore in the background, it’s 35 degrees on the beach... and your dictionary is lying beside you. Big Ben chimes and you have to swot up on English vocabulary. Studying French grammar… even though you would rather be enjoying tasty croissants and a café au lait? Language study trips have many different advantages: discovering a new country, getting to know a different culture in all its various guises – but it is learning that is a key point.
The best way to get to know a country is by speaking the language. And the best experiences are with local inhabitants – in their language. Learning a language abroad brings the traveller closer to the country, its inhabitants and the mentality as well as to the feel of the country. And there is no better place to learn a foreign language than in the country where it is spoken. Moving to the beat of the Argentine tango, feeling that cuba libre, personally experiencing the American way of life, discovering the Russian winter, seeing kangaroos in the wild and enjoying Indonesian specialities: people who travel educate themselves, broaden their knowledge and gain valuable life experience.
This year, the Fachverband Deutscher Sprachreise-Veranstalter (FDSV – association of German language travel agents) is partnering EXPOLINGUA Berlin. At the FDSV stand, the association will be informing visitors about what to look out for when choosing a language study trip as well as the general quality guidelines. A range of other exhibitors will also be providing information on all the options for learning a language abroad.
