Discovering the Middle Kingdom. Chinese:
this year’s guest language at the Expolingua Berlin language fair
Berlin. Aesthetic, graceful characters, a melodic tonality, and one of the world’s richest and longest literary traditions - the Chinese language is fascinating. Expolingua Berlin will present Chinese as this year’s guest language. From November 19th to 21st, visitors will have the chance to learn basic Chinese quickly and easily, to find out what is concealed behind the mysterious characters and why learning Chinese actually isn’t so difficult. The venue is Russisches Haus der Wissenschaft und Kultur in Berlin-Mitte.
The Hanban Organisation, responsible for the Confucius Institutes all over the world, will provide information about the Chinese language and culture to visitors to the fair. In addition to language courses for beginners and advanced students, the Confucius Institutes also hold cultural events as well as offering Chinese language tests and certificates. Berlin’s Chinese Cultural Institute, another organisation which promotes the Chinese language and culture in Germany, will also be represented at Expolingua Berlin.
In total, about 200 exhibitors from 30 countries will introduce their products and services for foreign language learning and teaching at Expolingua Berlin. Among the exhibitors are language schools, from both Germany and abroad, language-travel operators and exchange organisations, as well as cultural institutes and publishers. Another core component of the event is the extensive lecture programme, which is open to all visitors. The accompanying cultural programme includes foreign-language films, theatre and music.
