Expolingua Berlin 2011 once again attracts thousands of language enthusiasts

Berlin. Expolingua Berlin, the international fair for languages and cultures, was brought to a successful close on Sunday, October 30. During the three-day fair at the “Russische Haus der Wissenschaft und Kultur”, a total of 13,247 visitors got acquainted with the subject of language learning and teaching. Once again, an increase in visitor numbers was recorded in comparison with the previous year. 132 exhibitors from 26 countries presented their services, including language schools from Germany and abroad, language travel agencies, exchange organisations, embassies and cultural institutes. This year’s focus was the subject of language learning abroad.

“Foreign languages are essential in terms of both private and business use, whether for work, school or your next summer holiday. This has once again been demonstrated by the huge visitor interest in Expolingua Berlin”, commented Silke Lieber, the project leader of Expolingua Berlin. “We are delighted with the reception we have received from our visitors and exhibitors and are already looking forward to the fair’s 25th anniversary next year.”

Huge interest was generated among visitors by the seminar programme’s 80 presentations on languages that ran in parallel with the exhibition. Seminars on stays abroad and language careers such as interpreting and translation proved to be especially popular. The numerous mini language courses were a further crowd-puller, during which visitors could try out Arabic, Finnish, sign language, Japanese, Spanish and various other languages. Sunday’s cultural programme was also very well attended.

Next year, the long-standing language fair is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The 2012 Expolingua Berlin will once again take place in the “Russische Haus der Wissenschaft und Kultur” in Berlin from October 26th to 28th.
