Review 2009
Expolingua Berlin 2009, the 22nd International Fair for Languages and Cultures, took place from November 20 - 22 in the Russisches Haus der Wissenschaft und Kultur in Berlin.
204 exhibitors from 31 countries were represented at the language fair. Over the three days, 12,321 visitors gained information on around 50 languages.
“Interpreting and Translating” was the focus of this year’s fair. In a special section, different exhibitors, including the European Commission’s General Directorate for Interpretation, the European Court of Justice, the European Parliament, as well as the Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators (BDÜ), presented training possibilities and future prospects for interpreters and translators.
In addition, amongst the exhibitors at Expolingua Berlin, German and foreign-based language schools, language-travel operators, tourist boards, exchange organisations, embassies, cultural institutes, tourist boards and publishing houses were represented.
The over 100 presentations of the seminar programme that ran parallel to the fair proved to be particularly popular. Experts gave information about language travel, language instruction, work-and-travel programmes, as well as language tests and job portraits in the field of languages. Large crowds were drawn to the many mini language courses, at which visitors could try out Arabic, Finnish, Korean, Spanish and further languages.
